OFF TO BALLET

Girlswear concept for SS20

Software used: Accumark Explorer, Optitex, Adobe Illustrator

CONCEPT

I was responsible for conceptualizing and creating a line for a chosen target market for my Computer Aided Design for Apparel course. I chose girls from ages 5-10 to design for. After creating flat sketches on Adobe Illustrator, I made 2D patterns on Accumark Gerber. From there, I chose fabric and draped my garment on a 3D avatar on PDS Optitex. Then I laser-cut the fabric based off my pattern from an industrial machine, and sewed my tangible prototype.

Used Adobe Illustrator to create flats of 5 looks for my collection. Then I took images as inspiration to create a mood board. My inspiration drew from ballerina inspired silouhettes, soft colors and light fabrics, such as tulle, polyester and satin.

ACCUMARK EXPLORER — GERBER

After creating designs for my collection, I started drafting patterns. The look I decided to create was a satin slip dress paired with a tulle poncho. In order to create this look, I needed to create 6 pieces. This included a dress front and back, equipped with interfacing for added durability, strap and a poncho. The poncho piece was created by mimicking that of a circle skirt. I used the grade ruling of 2T to 10 and sized the pieces appropriately to create a comfortable fit for the user.

Below you will see my Gerber workspace as well as the finalized pieces used to proceed in Optitex.

OPTITEX

Prepared the order for the Lectra printing machine by choosing which and how many pieces to cut. After preparing the order, I sent the pieces to the machine in order for it to be cut. Below is my Optitex workspace and the draped satin slip dress.
